Rear garden design & landscaping | Parsons Green Lane | Fulham | 2018
This courtyard garden in Fulham was highly enclosed and shaded by surrounding walls and existing trees. Steps leading down to the basement level were very unwelcoming.
The client's brief was to brighten up and unclutter the space, facilitating access and views from the basement. They wanted to make it more baby friendly and have mainly evergreens.
We subdivided the space in three balanced parts, using sawn sandstone for lightness, artificial turf for playing and composite decking and seating forming a central feature at rear. Curves follow the natural way of moving through the garden. Stone setts and stone edging for flower beds provide texture contrast to the smooth paving.
We cascaded the steps down to make them more inviting and repeated the use of composite decking at basement for unity. A glass balustrade allows garden views from the basement kitchen window.
Foliage and woodland plants give the garden a strong sense of place.
