Rear garden design & landscaping | The Grove | Ealing | 2019
This large and sunny garden lacked enclosure and was overlooked by a neighbouring block of flats. The brief was to provide side screening and create a family garden with distinct seating spaces and grassed areas for playing.
We chose an orthogonal layout, with raised and level planting subdividing the garden into four garden rooms, connected by a gravel and stepping stone path.
A central pergola adds protection and direct views towards neighbouring greenery. Trees and hedges provide screening and punctuation throughout the garden.
Limestone paving is used in combination with yellow stock brick planters and black stained timber fence and pergola to create contrast and relate to the house. Wood effect porcelain is chosen for the rear patio to complement the design, soften this space and be easier to maintain.
Planting is more formal towards the house, becoming more colourful in the middle, culmination in small a Japanese corner at the far end.
